Stefanie Everaerts design practice is deeply rooted in the technical aspects of industrial knitting. As both a designer and a programmer for industrial knitting machines, her work is shaped by a hands-on approach to exploring the possibilities of machines, yarns, and techniques. She focuses on creating innovative 3D forms by pushing the limits of these technologies.

Bio

As a STOLL programmer technician, she has built strong connections within the knitting industry that enable her to produce high-quality, responsibly crafted products while supporting the preservation and growth of Belgium’s rich knitting heritage.

Objects

Kniterations

The project Kniterations explores how industrial knitting can be leveraged to produce functional and sustainable designs. The adaptable nature of these structures allows for scalable production, while dynamic elements such as elastic yarns create playful, interactive designs. This project pushes the boundaries of knitting techniques to create 3D forms, integrating elastic yarns and short-rowing techniques to form intricate, responsive structures directly in the textile.

During her internship at TextielLab in Tilburg, she developed products such as poufs, cushions, and handbags using flatbed knitting machines. These products change appearance when deformed, with elastic elements curling inward to reveal playful color combinations. Wool was incorporated to provide a soft, pleasant touch, enhancing the aesthetic while complementing the dynamic behavior of the elastic. This approach enabled the creation of a versatile, scalable, and sustainable product line.
